Sean McVay glowing over veteran WR at OTAs (but not who you think)

If McVay is excited, then so are we!

The Los Angeles Rams had to give their wide receiver room a bit of a makeover this offseason. Gone are Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson and in is Davante Adams. The Rams also have high hopes that former sixth-round pick Jordan Whittington can bring something positive to the offense this year.

Whittington was a sixth-round pick out of Texas in last year's draft and finished his rookie season with 22 receptions for 293 yards. He didn't score any touchdowns during his first year in the league but head coach Sean McVay thinks that Whittington will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

"You can see his accumulation of experience has led to a confidence, ability to be able to fill in when needed. (I) thought he had a really good day today, you can see he's just got a real comfort level in terms of what's being asked, what's the intent of some of these plays, what are the route nuances and where do I fit within these concepts, and so I've just been really proud of the progress, the maturity."

Sean McVay is hyping Rams fans up for Jordan Whittington's second season

If people heard this quote from McVay, they'd probably think he was talking about newcomer Davante Adams or Puka Nacua but nope -- It's about a second-year player who isn't projected to be a starter for the Rams. It just shows how amped up McVay is about Whittington and how much he thinks the former Texas star can bring to the offense this year.

It's worth noting that Whittington never put up superstar-like numbers while in Austin. His best season came in 2022 when he hauled in 50 receptions for 652 yards and one touchdown while averaging 50.2 yards per game. The Rams would be thrilled to get that kind of production out of a sixth-round pick.

Most of the time, sixth-round picks become an after thought but it's cool that McVay seems to think Whittington can be a real factor in the Rams offense not just this year, but beyond.
