Sean McVay has a reclamation project staring him down (if he wants it)

Could be fun?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but someday Matt Stafford is going to retired. I'll believe it when I see it, but everyone in the NFL's retired so far, so I'm not holding my breath. Rams fans have been worrying about this for the better part of a half-decade, and despite Stafford and the Rams agreeing on a new deal this offseason, the post-Stafford world is getting here, and fast.

If you want to sit here and think that either Jimmy Garoppolo or Stetson Bennett will just take the mantle, don't let me get in the way – denial and grief are powerful emotions, and everyone needs to deal with them in their own ways. But assuming that, you know, the Rams don't necessarily agree, they're going to find themselves in the dreaded Free Agent QB market at some point in the near future.

And since Sean McVay has somehow held onto his reputation as a QB whisperer despite almost no real evidence to back that up, it begs the question (kinda): is there a Rams Take A Flier On A Backup type move on the horizon? It's not fun, but it's also not Stetson Bennett, so we'll call it a tie. Before you get too excited about who I'm talking about, just remember to take deep breaths – it's just an idea.

Will Levis could be an intriguing post-Matt Stafford idea for the Rams

I want to be clear up front: I don't think Will Levis is good. In fact, I'm pretty sure Will Levis is bad. Through two years as the Titans' starting QB, he's gone 5-16 with 3900 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Titans certainly haven't surrounded him with the best environment to succeed, but it's been bad.

And like the old expression goes: one man's bad QB is another man's ... probably still bad QB. But if we've seen anything about backup QBs in the last couple seasons, it's that we maybe judged them a bit too harshly. Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold are all guys who seemed extremely washed at some point in the last few years, only to turn it around and sign big ol' deals as franchise guys. It is, technically, possible.

I don't love the idea, but I also don't love the idea of Matt Stafford retiring or meaningful snaps from Jimmy G. The lesson here is that there are no good ideas when you don't have a QB. At least one would be good for a few memes.
