Summing up 5 instant reactions to Rams Saturday Night Football victory

What a white-knuckle finish. . . Here are my first 5 morning-after reactions.

(3) - Where is the Rams offense?

I fear that the LA Rams front office needs to begin contacting dairy farms in the Los Angeles, California region to inquire about placing images of offensive players on milk cartons with the caption: 'Have you seen me?' on the carton. Right now, the Rams offense is stuck in a funk of their own making, and the reality is that if the team continues to flirt with disaster, eventually it will come down to that.

In 16 games so far in 2024, the Rams have failed to score 20 points or more seven times. If you expand the range to 21 points or more in regulation time, that number of games swells to 11 games. And yet, the team boasts a record of 10-6. So the Rams team (both offense and defense) have scored 21 points or more in just five games this season in regulation play. The Rams have won one game in overtime by scoring a touchdown.

Five games scoring 21 points or more. That's more than alarming. So is the problem veteran QB Matthew Stafford? He is part of the problem. Stafford is quite 'streaky' this season. In the first six games of the season, Stafford threw just three touchdowns to four interceptions. At the time, some scoffed at his struggles, blaming it on injuries to the offensive line and receivers. But here we are again, this time with healthy receivers and just one game with one injured offensive lineman.

Stafford has thrown just one touchdown to one interception in his past three games. In fact, Matthew Stafford has six games in 2024 in which he has not thrown a single touchdown. That is by far the worst season since he has joined the Rams, and the worst of his 16 year NFL career. That's alarming.

Another factor is the regression of WR Cooper Kupp. Since he set so many records in 2021, Kupp simply has not been the same. His catch percentage, coming in annually at 70 percent or better, has averaged just 68.6 percent from 2022-24. In 2024, his yards per game has fallen to 59.2 yards per game, his worst average since his rookie season in 2024.

The Rams restocked their team while keeping veterans Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Aaron Donald, naming them their 'weight-bearing walls.' Donald has since retired. While I am not lobbying for this team to make any drastic changes, I would say that the signs are beginning to suggest that the front office needs to address both the quarterback and the wide receiver positions in the 2025 NFL Draft.
