The LA Rams are 9-6, a marked accomplishment from a team that stumbled out of the gates to open with one win and four losses. While that was absolutely unsettling, the team faced the powerhouse NFC North Division in three of those first five games, all three resulting in losses. In hindsight, the Rams' early season struggles were as much about facing the toughest part of the schedule right out of the gates.
That's why it's best to reserve judgement about the team until we have sufficient evidence in hand to support those conclusions.
But here we are with 15 games in the record books and just two games remaining to be decided. While it is still too early to let our guards down and consider the team bound for the playoffs. But we have plenty of evidence to draw logical conclusions about the team. For example, we know that the Rams' offense depends heavily upon a productive running attack.
But there is something special about this LA Rams team. What is it? Let's discuss.
Rams are road warriors
The LA Rams are one of the youngest teams in the NFL. And that is due to the fact that the team has heavily invested in restocking the Rams roster with players selected in the 2023 and 2024 NFL Drafts. Of course, the benefits of loading up the team with young players is the price tag (rookie contracts are phenomenally cheap) and the ability to coach up players to fit the team's scheme and philosophy.
There are challenges with younger players. They are a bit more inconsistent in their production, as they must learn how to overcome various strategies and techniques as they face them for the first time in their professional careers. Another area of challenge to younger player is the ability to remain focused to win on the road.
Thankfully, that does not seem to be a problem in 2024 for these Rams:
What is particularly eye-opening is that the team opened the season with three consecutive road losses. Of course, three of four games on the road are a tough ask of even a veteran squad. But after failing to win any of their first three road games, the team roared back to five consecutive wins. That is quite the turn around for the team.
Best of all, the Rams will almost certainly face multiple road games if the team competes and advances in the playoffs. Knowing that the team can win on the road is a huge confidence builder. And, as the embedded message from Fox Sport NFL so accurately points out, the last time the team enjoyed this level of on-the-road success was 2021, the same year that the Rams won Super Bowl LVI.
As always, thanks for reading.
