The 12-5 Los Angeles Rams have completed a successful season and must now prepare for their Wild Card Round opponent in the upcoming NFL Playoffs, the 8-9 Carolina Panthers. But even as the team prepares to face its next opponent, NFL voters are casting ballots to determine who deserves the annual array of awards and accolades.

And one of the most heated debates centers on which NFL player is most deserving of the NFL Most Valuable Player award. The frontrunners for the distinction appear to be centered between Rams veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford and New England Patriots young quarterback Drake Maye.

Adding to the debate was the prompting of former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to weigh in on the debate, giving his endorsement for either Stafford or Maye:

Brady lays out the competition and praises both. But as a veteran quarterback himself, he acknowledges Stafford's 46 touchdown passes this season. For the record, Brady only passed for 46+ touchdowns once in his 23-year NFL career, 50 touchdowns thrown in 2017.

Tom Brady gets it right by endorsing Matthew Stafford for NFL MVP

While Drake Maye is a solid quarterback, he is buoyed by the fact that the New England Patriots have made such a dramatic turnaround this season. While he has an impressive completion rate of 72.0 percent, he has thrown for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Matthew Stafford, on the other hand, has thrown for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. Stafford's performance lands him among the All-Time NFL Single Season leaders for touchdown passes. That's a historic performance.

Maye is good, yes. But he faced struggling defenses all season long. Yes, he can only play against the teams on the schedule. But if you compare New England's opponents to those of Los Angeles, there is a clear distinction in pass defense proficiency.

And while Maye did lead the Patriots offense to success, Stafford struggled to even suit up for Week 1 due to a back injury that sidelined him throughout training camp. Now, he has performed at an NFL MVP-level.

The LA Rams do not often attract enough interest from voters to earn accolades and awards. And there is no reason to expect any different results this season. But Stafford has played lights out all season long, and has done so despite having to acclimate to the offensive weapons after the season started.

Tom Brady made the correct choice by endorsing Stafford as the MVP. Hopefully, the ballots will follow suit as well.

As always, thanks for reading.
