Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee had his knee taken out by Lions safety Kerby Joseph in a 2024 playoff game, missed most of the next season, and was still dealing with lingering effects from the injury this offseason.

That hasn't stopped the 33-year-old, now in Year 11, from leading Rams tight ends this season.

The offense has needed him. Young star Terrance Ferguson is on injured reserve. Colby Parkinson, who led LA tight ends a year ago, has dealt with shoulder and knee injuries. Ever since Ferguson left the lineup in Week 3, it's been Higbee at the front of the charge.

In each of his last three games, Big Rig Higs has recorded at least five catches and 60 receiving yards. Against the Bills in Week 5, he was on the receiving end of two of LA's longest pass plays, hauling in a 30-yarder and another for 28.

Old man's still got it, eh?

Rams are getting a reinvigorated Tyler Higbee this season

Perhaps it's not so surprising.

As measured by per-game averages, Higbee was sneakily the Rams' most productive tight end last season. Sidelined by an ankle injury, Higbee played only 10 games but produced 25 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns. That pace would have led the room in receiving yards over Parkinson, the actual leader with 408, had Higbee stayed healthy.

And he did that while managing residual discomfort in his knee from Joseph's years-old cheap shot. It's not just his statistical production in 2026. Higbee is moving fluidly. He looks athletic. Almost young.

The longest-tenured Ram - call it a tie with defensive lineman Aaron Donald, who's also in his 11th season with the team after a two-year absence - Higbee has four seasons of at least 500 receiving yards. He would have had another in 2023, when he closed at 495, had he not missed two games.

Is he in for another?

He's on track. Higbee had a quiet first two weeks, posting just two catches for 12 yards. Even so, his season totals put him on pace for a receiving stat line of 68 REC /762 YDs/3 TD. Higbee's involvement as a pass-catcher will likely decrease once Ferguson returns, which he is eligible to do in Week 8.

Still, given Higbee's recent play, it would be odd if he did not remain firmly in the mix. And none of that covers his utility as a blocker against both the run and the pass, something Higbee does quite well with his 6-foot-6, 253-pound frame.

Keep chugging along, Big Rig Higs.
