Updated Rams depth chart at offensive line reveals solid depth already

The Rams offensive line already looks loaded for bear.

The Los Angeles Rams appeared to have ample depth along the offensive line in 2024. Well, more than ample depth, as the team had addressed filling all starting roles with established veterans. Then, after the team had bridged the initial challenge of extending both LT Alaric Jackson and RG Kevin Dotson, the team pivoted from bringing back center Coleman Shelton to adding a more physical veteran IOL free agent from the Detroit Lions, Jonah Jackson.

The team suffered multiple injuries in 2024, benching Alaric Jackson, Steve Avila, Jonah Jackson, and Rob Havenstein for multiple games. In their place, the Rams were forced to entrust swing tackle Joe Noteboom, Warren McClendon Jr., A.J. Arcuri, Justin Dedich, Logan Bruss, Dylan McMahon, and Beaux Limmer.

Logan Bruss is no longer with the team. But the team built substantial experience among offensive linemen who were young and or inexperienced last season. So how does that affect the Rams' depth chart at the offensive line position in 2024? Let's take a quick snapshot, adding the number of offensive snaps played by linemen last season by Lineups.com. The projected Rams OL depth chart as the roster currently stands works out as:

  • LT: Alaric Jackson (894 snaps) | Warren McClendon Jr. (331 snaps)
  • LG: Steve Avila (596 snaps) | Justin Dedich (206 snaps)
  • C: Coleman Shelton (1122 snaps) | Beaux Limmer (917 snaps) | Dylan McMahon (66 snaps)
  • RG: Kevin Dotson (1024 snaps) | AJ Arcuri (66 snaps)
  • RT: Rob Havenstein (684 snaps) | KT Leveston (0 snaps)

The Rams have since released former IOL Logan Bruss and traded away IOL Jonah Jackson. Both players had playing time as a starting offensive lineman in 2024. And the Rams signing of Coleman Shelton restores a starting center to compete with Beaux Limmer in training camp this season.

But in doing so, the Rams depth chart at center is that much better. As the team pivots from free agency to the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, the depth chart does point to a need for more competition at offensive tackle. There is also the option to back up Havenstein with McClendon or Arcuri. But however you feel the tiles need to be shifted, Leveston remains as the lone returning offensive linemen with no experience. So the team may consider adding more depth in this year's draft just to elevate the level of competition.

If the Rams want to carry the typical 14-15 offensive linemen in training camp, the team has its work cut out for itself. The front office is unlike to dump multiple picks at offensive linemen during the draft, so I expect the heavy lifting of filling those roster spots will happen after the draft.

Do the Rams need a starting rookie prospect in the draft? Or can the Rams hold off until Day 3 of the draft and coach them up to an NFL-caliber level in this year's training camp? With the return of Alaric Jackson, I expect the team will address other position needs. Do you agree?

As always, thanks so much for reading.
