Updated Rams depth chart at wide receiver after Cooper Kupp signs with Seahawks

With no chance of Cooper Kupp returning to the Rams, here are the players who remain:

The Los Angeles Rams extended speedy WR Tutu Atwell, and signed seasoned veteran Davante Adams to the Rams roster. But the team also lost players. The team released veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who just signed with the NFC West Division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. The team did not re-sign WR Demarcus Robinson, who has since signed with the division rival San Francisco 49ers. The team did not even manage to come to terms with WR Tyler Johnson, who has not just signed with the New York Jets.

That means that 1,890 offense snaps, 205 targets, 124 receptions, 1,506 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns just walked out the door. Yes, Davante Adams is good. But he's not THAT good. So where will the compensation come from to make up for the loss of offensive output. Better still, where can the Rams expect to add more offense to help the team climb in yards gained and points scored this season?

The receiver room, of course.

The Rams may have lost some very productive and talented players, but the Rams roster has been suffering a bit of a logjam of late. What do I mean? Let's project how the current Rams depth chart might look like once players return for OTAs and training camp:

  • WR (left) - WR Davante Adams | WR Jordan Whittington
  • WR (right) - WR Puka Nacua | WR Quintez Cephus*
  • WR (slot) - WR Tutu Atwell | WR Xavier Smith** | WR Drake Stoops

* - Quintez Cephus did not see action with the LA Rams, but is a veteran of three NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions. He last caught a pass in 2022. Since that time, he has competed for roster spots with the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans before signing to the Rams practice squad in 2024

** - Xavier Smith is a seldom used receiver who is both swift and elusive. While seeing action in 33 offensive snaps, he was primarily a special teams contributor so far. He did manage to return 16 punts in 2024 for 149 yards, and six kickoffs for 155 yards. He can explode for huge gains with the football in his hands.

If you are anything like me, you may have expected the Rams wide receiver room to be decimated right now, particularly after losing three solid contributors and two starters from last year's offense. But I expect the team to have a solid core of starters and rotational players already.

The Rams are likely to add to the group in the 2025 NFL Draft. But even as it now stands, this is a very dangerous group of receivers.

As always, thanks for reading.
