The LA Rams season when they lost in the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL Playoffs to the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 28-22. Instantly, the Rams front office pivoted from the 2024 NFL season to the upcoming 2025 NFL offseason. At the moment that the final score was formally recorded in NFL history, the LA Rams learned when they would step up to the podium on Day 1 to make their first selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

That's right. The LA Rams, the team that many accused of trading future draft picks to go all-in at winning now, has their second Day 1 draft pick in consecutive years. Or, do they?

In the 2019 NFL Draft, the LA Rams held the 31st pick in the draft on Day 1. But when the time came for the team to make a selection, the Rams opted to trade back. The team agreed to package a pair of picks - the 31st (Round 1) and 209th (Round 6) picks of the 2019 NFL Draft - and send them to the Atlanta Falcons in return for the 45th (Round 2) and 79th (Round 3) picks of the draft.

Of course, it did not end there, as the team continued to navigate the draft board with multiple trades in that year. But the point is clear, the Rams are willing to trade back from a late Round 1 pick to enhance their Day 2 presence in an NFL Draft. Is that in store this season?

Well, that could be the scenario facing the LA Rams and Rams fans during the 2025 NFL Draft. The team has one pick late in Round 1, no picks in Round 2, and two picks late in Round 3. But when do the Rams step up to the podium for the first time in the 2025 NFL Draft? Per NFL.com, the Rams will make their first selection with the 26th overall pick. The site also lists the Rams' greatest draft needs as: OT, LB, WR, CB, and OG. You can pull OG from that list, as the team signed FA Jonah Jackson, started IOLs Kevin Dotson and Steve Avilla, and got serviceable playing time from undrafted rookie Justin Dedich in 2024.

Is the 26th overall pick too late to land a plug-and-play rookie? Will the team view a lack of selection in Round 2 as a significant reason to trade back in the draft? Will the team attempt to trade up in Round 1? As we are reminded every draft by Rams GM Les Snead, all options are on the table if the move will improve the Rams roster.

And so, the LA Rams will make their first pick at the 26th overall pick. So when are the Rams projected to pick throughout the 2025 NFL Draft? Per Tankathon.com, the Rams are projected to make their selections as follows:

  • Round 1 - 26
  • Round 3 - 90
  • Round 3 - 100
  • Round 4 - 125
  • Round 6 - 191
  • Round 6 - 202
  • Round 6 - 203

Keep in mind that projected picks after Round 1 are subject to change due to the official (not projected) awarding of NFL compensatory picks. The NFL has also invoked penalties upon teams that could lead to a forfeiture of one or more draft picks. Those matters will be decided at the annual NFL Owners Meeting.

The team enters the 2025 NFL Draft with seven picks. While the overall value of the picks may not be particularly heavy ammunition, the team has clobbered their draft picks in both 2023 and 2024. There is a solid track record for the team to emerge with multiple starters from the upcoming draft.

If the team manages another excellent rookie class, the team will be even better. As always, thanks for reading.
