If you've been following the LA Rams, you know that there was some hullabaloo made about the return of TE Tyler Higbee to the active roster for Week 16. But after a full half of an NFL game against the New York Jets, he has not shown up in the Box Score. Of course, the Rams are not showing much in terms of passing the football.
And that could pose a problem if you were counting on the Rams veteran tight end to show up in a big way in Week 16. It's not unexpected. We cited tempering expectations for TE Tyler Higbee in Week 16 in our 7 Bold Predictions feature article. After all, the Rams offense has spun away from using tight ends in the offense in any meaningful role in many weeks.
Higbee is also struggling at integrating himself into an offense that is riding a roller coaster at scoring 44 points against the Buffalo Bills, but only 12 points against the San Francisco 49ers. So any expectation that Higbee's return will set things right in this offense are a bit premature.
Veteran QB Matthew Stafford has thrown one pass in this game to a tight end. That pass was incomplete to tight end Colby Parkinson. So far, that has been the only target for a tight end in this game.
Of course, it doesn't help that Matthew Stafford is having a horrific game. Stafford has thrown just six of ten passes for 46 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. The Rams are not going to win if they cannot get the offense going. Early in the third quarter, the Rams have amassed just 117 offensive yards, and have held the football only 13:49 while the New York Jets have controlled the clock for over 22 minutes and growing.
The Rams are at risk of being upset in Week 16. Stay tuned.
