The Los Angeles Rams may have a major role to play in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they may not be aware that they are one of the major characters. After all, the drama that plays out in any NFL draft is difficult to anticipate because each selection made impacts every other selection that follows. And the lack of consensus in this draft only adds to the plinko effect.

The scenario that is unfolding is the fact that Alabama quarterback prospect Jalen Milroe has been invited to attend the 2025 NFL Draft. Smoke screen? Subterfuge? That would be a very cruel trick to play on a young man just to disguise a team's draft plans And after the NFL invited WIll Levis to the 2023 NFL Draft, only to sit through Day 1 without hearing his name called out, the league pledged to avoid those embarrassing events in the future.

And so, QB Jalen Milroe, viewed on multiple draft boards as the sixth- or seventh-best rookie quarterback prospect in the draft, is expected to be selected in Round 1. While that seemed far-fetched weeks ago, Milroe is becoming quite active on the circuit of visits with NFL teams.

And yes, he is scheduled to meet with the LA Rams as well.

It's not that the Rams are out of the rookie quarterback market. But Jalen Milroe does not strike a chord as a rookie prospect who warrants a Round 1 selection from many draft analysts.

Milroe may be every team's cup of tea, but he only needs one team to believe in him to be selected on Day 1. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 217 pounds, Milroe certainly looks the part. He is a dual-threat quarterback, capable of threatening defenses with his arm and his legs. In 2024, he put up 16 passing touchdowns, and 20 rushing touchdowns.

36 touchdowns is nothing to sneeze at. But Milroe bring more to an offense that touchdowns. Milroe is a raw quarterback who possesses elite skills. Given the right amount of patience and coaching, his ceiling is as high as anyone. But that describes a Day 2 rookie prospect.

Are the Rams in play to select Milroe in Round 1? Perhaps. But the Rams may be vetting Milroe out of necessity. It's not uncommon for NFL teams to prepare for trades in the NFL Draft, contingent on a certain player being on the board when the team picks. For the Rams, the team has vetted several quarterbacks who have hints of being on the board at the 26th overall pick. Could the Rams have a trade agreement in place, contingent with Jalen Milroe still being on the board?

That makes more sense. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and even the New Orleans Saints are quarterback-needy teams that could be shopping for a rookie quarterback late in Round 1. The Rams have an ideal spot to trade to for those teams. Even if Jalen Milroe is not in the Rams' crosshairs, the team could still play a major role in getting him in the hands of an NFL team.

Do the Rams have a player they want at 26th overall? Perhaps. But there are decisions to be made, and if a team is sweet on Jalen Milroe, that could translate into the Rams trading back.

I suppose that simply adds to the thrill of the NFL draft.

As always, thanks for reading.
