Coming out of a well-timed Week 6 BYE, the injury-plagued LA Rams (1-4) hopes to have turned the corner on many fronts as the team hosts the Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) in Week 7. One of the team will earn a desperately needed victory, while the other team will find itself scrambling to stay afloat through the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.

While Rams fans have waited two weeks for this game, they won't wait long for the next one. The Rams host the Minnesota Vikings in just five days after this game on Thursday Night Football to close out the month of October 2024. And it's that short week of practice to prepare for that game that could impact how the team strategizes for this one.

With an NFC opponent in Week 8, the team may opt to keep several players inactive for Week 7. Players such as WR Cooper Kupp and rookie WR Jordan Whittington are questionable to play this week. Perhaps the team saves them to face the Vikings in Week 8 in just five days, knowing that players get the benefit of a mini-BYE before they must suit up and compete in Week 9.

But this is the Rams, and we are talking about Cooper Kupp, a veteran who will certainly want to be on the football field to help his team win now.

The Raiders have one of the NFL's best passing defenses, with an average of just 186.2 passing yards per game clocking in as the seventh-ranked passing defense. But they have done so by beating up on some of the worst passing offenses in the NFL: Including the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Carolina Panthers. Well, not so much the Panthers, as veteran QB Andy Dalton shredded the Raiders secondary for 319 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The Rams should be on track to win this game. But nothing comes easily for the Rams in 2024, so look for a fight-to-the-finish in this one.

Announcers for Raiders vs. Rams

  • Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: Kevin Harlan
  • Color Commentator: Trent Green
  • Sideline reporter: Melanie Collins

The Raiders vs. Rams game is not going to command the national audience to compete with that of the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers, so the broadcast crew reflects the anticipated regional audience. Despite the lower appeal to the national NFL audience, this game has a lot of meaning to both the NFC and AFC West Divisions.

Harlan earned a ton of respect from his color commentator Trent Green when he tried to throw it back to the studio for a gamebreak update. When the studio could not hear him, he flipped to the other game and called that touchdown throw as well:

Hopefully, the bugs have been worked out for Week 7 and the CBS broadcast crew for this one.

Referees for Raiders Rams

Head Referee: Shawn Hochull

Now in his seventh season as Head Referee, Shawn Hochull has been busy this season. There has been no BYE rest week for this crew, as they are coming off a Week 6 covering the Cleveland Browns versus Philadelphia Eagles contest. The Eagles emerged the victors, and the game resulted in seven penalties thrown on the Browns for 55 yards, and five flags against the Eagles for 40 yards. This will be the first time that Hochull's crew will officiate a Rams game.
