When it comes to the Los Angeles Rams, there are seldom good reasons to work in the literary genius of author J.R.R. Tolkien. But I continue to try, as Tolkien's writing captures the drama of struggling against all odds, the elation of individual heroism, and the subtle way that minor moments can lead to epic victories.
The reason Tolkien is one of my favorite authors is his command of the English language and how he can whittle and tinker with our emotions with the right combination of words to lay out observations that are common to many of us. One particular passage is how he portrays a king of the realm as a commoner who has regal nobility. That passage goes like this:
"All that is gold does not glitter,J.R.R. Tolkien, Fellowship of the Ring
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."
So what does this have to do with the LA Rams? Perhaps very little. But we've tackled the Rams perspective of drafting a rookie quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, and with so many draft analysts less than enthusiastic about available quarterbacks this year, wouldn't it be just like Rams GM Les Snead to fool everyone by adding a lesser scouted quarterback prospect to the Rams roster this year?
After all, the Rams drafted former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in Round 4 of the 2023 NFL Draft. In that year, Bennett was the eighth-ranked QB of that draft with a grade of 5.94. Clearly, the Rams trusted their process over the testimony of general NFL draft analysts.
Are those same forces coming to a climax in 2025? It certainly adds additional intrigue to the Rams' overall draft strategy. While the Rams have publicly committed to pursuing a rookie quarterback(s) in this year's draft, that could mean making a selection with a Round 1 pick or signing a quarterback after the draft concludes. History with GM Les Snead and HC Sean McVay tends to favor the latter.
Don't lose heart too quickly. Former Ramblin Fan contributor and now NFL Draft analyst John Vogel keeps the Los Angeles Rams in mind. In fact, he pointed out Minnesota quarterback prospect Max Brosmer, and shared how he is a solid fit for what the Rams are seeking in future NFL quarterback role:
