The Los Angeles Rams are just one week into training camp, but a few players are already separating themselves as clear winners.
If these players can maintain their current form, it could have serious implications on the 2025 season.
Biggest winners and losers from the first week of Rams training camp
Winner: Jordan Whittington
Second-year receiver Jordan Whittington may be the biggest winner of Rams training camp so far. According to Rams insider and ESPN reporter Sarah Bishop, Whittington has been impressive in early practices. He caught a deep pass from Jimmy Garoppolo last week, showing off his speed and ball skills.
Sean McVay had high praise for Whittington, saying, “He's got the ability to play all three spots. He can really compete in the run game, and I think he's really continuing to increase his route volume. He's played really well."
The former sixth-round pick had a quiet rookie season, with just under 300 total receiving yards. If he can continue impressing McVay, Whittington may end up winning the third starting receiver position in the Rams’ offense.
Loser: Tutu Atwell
As Whittington rises, Tutu Atwell falls. The two receivers are competing for a starting job, and Whittington seems to have the edge so far.
Atwell had the best season of his career in 2024, hauling in 42 passes for 562 yards. Moving forward, he’s sure to have a role in McVay’s offense. But if he can’t improve his play in training camp and the preseason, he may have to take a backseat to Whittington.
Winner: Jarquez Hunter
Rookie running back Jarquez Hunter has been a standout player through the first week of camp. It’s difficult for running backs to truly make their mark without pads on, but Hunter has already impressed his coaches.
Speaking of Hunter on Monday, McVay told the media, “He's heavy, he's got a great body. And even though we're not truly tackling, you can feel that he is heavy through the hole.”
Hunter even saw some snaps with the first team. If early practices are any indication, he could play a significant role in the Rams’ offense this season.
Winner: Rams veterans
As players around the league suffer training camp injuries, McVay is protecting his veteran stars. According to Bishop, veterans including Rob Havenstein, Davante Adams, and Tyler Higbee have not seen a full workload in early practices.
Deep into their careers, it’s not crucial that these veterans participate in the first days of training camp. It’s far more important that they stay healthy going into the season.
