Rams’ GM Billy Devaney had some interesting things to say from the NFL Combine the other day, but none more important than his comments about the possibility of the team trading down in the upcoming draft if the situation is right. According to Billy D, the front office has already discussed scenarios in which the team will trade down from the 14th overall pick.
“Gosh, it’d be great if we get there and there’s three or four guys that we really love,” Devaney said. “Where we say we’d be happy with any of those guys and then we can move back a little bit, knowing that chances are you still may have a shot at one of those four guys. That’s the best scenario to be in. Oh yeah, we’ve already started.”
That’s what I love to hear from the GM. He knows this team has plenty of holes to fill, and he’s making it known early on that the Rams will be open to discussions come draft day. With the combine in full swing already, these comments make it even more important for the scouting staff to be on top of their game over the next few days, because with the CBA issues currently clouding free agency, this draft could be one of the most important in this franchise’s history.
