Two years ago the Rams brought in linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar to St. Louis in free agency and he turned out to be one of their best free agency signings, and one of the best free agent signings that year.

The Rams have done so once again this year signing Dunbar to a two-year deal worth up to $3.5 million.

Last season Dunbar had 39 tackles in 12 games with the Rams after serving a suspension and being previously released by the team. Dunbar was the reason for a rejuvenated defense that almost got the win against the Seahawks in a Monday Night classic.

Dunbar had an off-year allowing an alarming 100% catch rate in coverage and 19 missed tackles, but some of that was due to the increased playing time of rookie standout Alec Ogletree who lead the team in tackles, and considering the Rams play a lot of their defense in the nickel, the other linebacker on the field a lot of the time was James Laurinaitis.

Dunbar will re-unite with former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in St. Louis and as Wagoner mentions, they spent three year together down in New Orleans.

It should also be mentioned that quarterback Kellen Clemensn signed with the San Diego Chargers which officially leaves the Rams without a true back-up quarterback. Clemens took over last season for the injured Sam Bradford and lead the Rams to four wins, two of which came against the Saints and Colts.

The Rams have yet to venture outside of their own team as far as signing players goes, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully next on that list will be guard Shelley Smith who visited with the Dolphins yesterday.
