Dear St. Louis Rams: Stop DeMarco Murray

facebooktwitterreddit

The St. Louis Rams have had their woes in the run defense early this season giving up 185 yards rushing to the Minnesota Vikings in week one and then followed that up by giving up 157 yards to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Because of this, the St. Louis Rams have the 30th ranked run defense in the NFL. Sure, they have the 5th best pass defense, but teams haven’t really needed to throw the ball. When you’re giving up an average of 171 yards on the ground, why would you throw the ball?

This needs to change when the St. Louis Rams go up against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. If it’s one running back that the St. Louis Rams have not been able to stop over the last couple of years, it is DeMarco Murray.

More from Rams News

In 2011, Murray rushed for a franchise record 253 yards which lead to a Cowboys 34-7 victory. When the Rams and Cowboys played last season, Murray once again, had a career day against the Rams defense as he ran for 175 yards on the ground.

With a front four like that of the Rams, running stats like this should never happen, however, they seem to occur way too often. If the Rams think its going to get any easier this time around, their wrong. The Cowboys are better on the offensive line this season, and are determined to run the football.

Murray is averaging 25.5 carries a game through the first two games which makes the Cowboys 12-1 when Murray has 20 or more carries.

If the Rams want to beat the Cowboys, they must stop the run, and as dangerous as it may be, they must make Tony Romo beat them with his arm. Romo is coming off of back surgery and is known for making mistakes in big moments. The Rams are only one-point underdogs at home against the Cowboys, if the game is close, you have to like the Rams’ chances.

DeMarco Murray has had his way with the St. Louis Rams in the past, but if the Rams want to get their first win at home of the season, they will need to put stopping DeMarco Murray number one on their priority list.
