St. Louis Rams Twitter Remembers Super Bowl XXXIV

“Probably the final play of the game, and it’s caught by Dyson! Can he get in? No he cannot! Mike Jones made the tackle! And the Rams have won the Super Bowl! ”

That was the call on the final play by Al Michaels as the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans 23-16 is Super Bowl XXXIV. Today marks the 15th anniversary of that day, and it’s amazing where this team was then, a possibly dynasty and where it is now, 10 years removed from a winning record.

Thats not even to mention that the head coach of the losing side is now the Rams’ current coach.

When this game took place, I was only six years old, but I remember it as if it was yesterday, sitting on the couch with my dad(not a Rams fan) watching my very first Super Bowl, or that I could remember that is.

The most memorable plays of this game obviously starts with the Kurt Warner pass to Isaac Bruce down the right sideline to give the Rams the late lead. That is a play that has been cemented in my memory since the very moment it took place.

“The gateway to the WEST, is now the gateway to the BEST football team in the world!

Tennessee had grabbed momentum after being down 16-0 and climbed all the way back to tie the game at 16.

Then the Rams did what they had done all season and what drew me in to being a fan, took advantage of the big play. Farr and others give credit to Warner for taking a huge hit from Jevon Kearse. The ball was slightly under thrown, but just enough for Issac Bruce to cut back around the defender and score a touchdown.

What happens next is the play that everybody remembers and one that Dyson recalls in a written account on the Titans website.

"The Rams gave us the coverage for my side of the field. They ran exactly what we thought they would and I became the primary receiver. Steve threw the ball, I made the catch and saw the yellow paint in the end zone. I knew Mike Jones was there, but when I initially crossed paths with him, I didn’t feel like he had the angle or body position to even make the tackle. I thought maybe he would get his hands on me and I would still be able to get to the end zone. But if you watch the replay, he was able to bring his whole body around and get his left hand on my left knee. I couldn’t extend my left leg up to make the play or get that extra length I needed. It was a tribute to him making the play….I’ve had 14 years to put that game, that moment in perspective. I dwelled on it for a long time, stressed about it for months. But you eventually have to put things in perspective. Some things are more important than football. It was the most important game of my athletic life and you understand how hard it is to get to that point, but you have to move on.  It actually propelled me to one of the better off-seasons I ever had. I wanted to get back to that stage again and everyone else had the same approach. We had such a good football team in 1999 and 2000. In my opinion We were the best football team for two years that did not win a Super Bowl title.”"

The Rams seem eons away from making a Super Bowl run anytime soon, so for now, Rams Nation gets to remember and cherish what was the Greatest Show on Turf. Here’s some of the best tweets from the day as well as a short audio tribute.
