When will wide receiver Brian Quick make his 2015 debut?

Wide receiver Brian Quick has been a lightning rod of criticism since the day he arrived in St. Louis. The 33rd overall selection in the NFL Draft three years ago has failed to produce more than 375 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a season. Now, Quick has been listed as inactive for the last two weeks, and looks to be inactive again in Week 3, leaving some to question the real reason for his absence.

Head coach Jeff Fisher insists it’s nothing more than a numbers game at the moment and that Quick is healthy.

"“He just needs to keep practicing. Just be patient. He understands that we have to go to 46 (players) and it’s a numbers game. He’s in much better shape right now than he was a few weeks ago, so it’s nothing structurally or physically to do with his shoulder at this point.” (Nick Wagoner, ESPN)"

When Fisher speaks of Quick’s shoulder he is referencing the injury the wide out suffered last October that ended the best start to a season in his career. Through seven games in 2014 Quick had racked up a career high 375 receiving yards on 25 receptions and three touchdowns. The shoulder injury he suffered was season ending, and some even thought career threatening.

Many Rams fans had envisioned a mighty return this year for the young receiver picking up where he left off last season, as this teams number one passing potion. However, circumstances have prevented that.

Quick was able to return in time for training camp and the preseason schedule, but he donned the “non-contact” yellow beanie in practice for much of that time. He was listed as a game day inactive against Seattle and Washington leading some to believe he has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Quick is just taking things in stride.

"“I’m just being patient.” Quick said. “Whenever my number is called, whenever the coaching staff decides to put me in the mix of everything, that’s when I’m going to be ready. I need to get the feel back. I missed a lot of football last year, just coming into practice every day and coming in working.”(Wagoner, ESPN)"

Given the anemic numbers the Rams wide receiving core has put up through two weeks, the return of Quick would be a welcome one. St. Louis ranks last in the NFL in team receptions and receiving yards with 12 catches for 150 yards. Quick’s size and pass catching skills would certainly help to improve those numbers.

Quarterback Nick Foles had nothing but good things to say about Quick.

"“ So talented, such a big receiver. His ball skills are among the best I’ve seen, just how he goes up and gets it. When he’s healthy and when he gets back out there, it’s going to be exciting.” (Wagoner, ESPN)"

Now in his fourth season in St. Louis, Quick has accumulated 54 receptions for 833 receiving yards. He has played in 38 games and scored seven touchdowns. He boasts a healthy 15.3 yards per catch average over that time span.

Quick will once again enter the weekend with his status up in the air. All signs point to another game as an inactive, but each day brings his return closer. Week 4 could be that day, but we can’t see the team waiting any longer than the bye week in Week 6.
