Will the move back to Los Angeles help the Rams attendance?

With the Rams relocation back to Los Angeles, fans across the sports world got the hints of happy, sad, excited, devastated, and non-stop cheering, but more importantly will fans show up to watch the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 season? It has been reported that the Rams brand new stadium in Inglewood won’t be fully built until the start of the 2019 season, so where will the Rams be playing?

More from Rams News

The Rams will be playing at the Los Angeles Coliseum for the next three seasons which currently is the home for the University of Southern California football team (USC). With the move back to LA, fans were happy and were already asking for information on season tickets. Well, the Rams launched their new website for season tickets Welcome Home Rams as fans were allowed to put down their name and $100 to secure up to eight season tickets.

The system is off a long list, as fans were given a number which shows them how close they are to be the first to get season tickets when they are released. The Rams just closed the opportunity to put down a deposit on season tickets and the final numbers even shocked myself. Over 56,000 people put down a refundable deposit to put their name on the season tickets list. Now this is a refundable deposit which may be given back once ticket prices are released, but fans have shown they are excited.

It will be very interesting to see how many official season ticket deposits are made after the prices are released. I don’t expect everybody to get season tickets, but I can see more season tickets being sold in LA for the 2016 season than back in St. Louis last year. According to 2015 season the St. Louis Rams had the worst attendance in the NFL.  St. Louis averaged about 52,000 fans per game as the top spot belong to the Dallas Cowboys with an average of 91,000 fans per game.

Currently the Los Angeles Coliseum can hold 93,000 fans, will there be a sellout for the opening game as the Rams come back to LA? I think there is a high possibility there will be. The move to Los Angeles will help the Rams attendance increase over the years. Right now the Rams are on the rise, and could potential reach the playoffs next season, but attendance will show in the Rams performance. I do expect the first year back in Los Angeles, to have the Rams back in the middle of the pack in NFL attendance, but from then on, it’s all about how the Rams play.

Next season will be one of the most important seasons for head coach Jeff Fisher and the Rams as well. Fisher will be coming back for his last year on contract, as this will be a do or die season for him. Tons of fans may be able to get season tickets, but if the Rams have a losing season in 2016, the mood may go from welcome home, to empty seats.
