Thanks to a loss by the Los Angeles Rams, the Tennessee Titans earned the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft from the Jared Goff trade.

Thanks to the Los Angeles Rams finishing with only four wins on the year, the Tennessee Titans have to be pleased for locking up the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

After finishing with the worst record in 2015, the Titans landed the top overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but with Jared Goff and Carson Wentz rated as two of the top players, the team wasn’t in need of selecting another quarterback since the team was happy with Marcus Mariota. Instead, Tennessee took advantage of the situation by agreeing to a trade with Los Angeles, in which they moved up in order to select Goff.

Thanks to the deal, the Titans find themselves in great position heading into this year’s draft with two picks in the first round as they have every reason in the world to be excited over lading a top-five pick thanks to the Rams. The decision to trade up and select Goff was supposed to help Los Angeles take a step forward this year after finishing with a 7-9 record last season, but that obviously was far from the case as their offense ranked near the bottom of the league.

Over time, the Goff trade will hopefully payoff for the Rams, but that doesn’t take away from how tough of a pill it is to swallow seeing the Titans making out great from the trade by landing the fifth pick. For a team that could use some help at wide receiver and cornerback, Tennessee should be extra thankful for Los Angeles agreeing to this trade last offseason as they can’t wait to see which player they end up with in the draft when they’re officially on the clock early on.
