From bench to rising NFL star? It could happen.

The Los Angeles Rams offense has begun to add unpredictability to its arsenal, something that fans are delighted to see. In a Week 7 offensive eruption, Sean McVay deployed three tight ends routinely to throw off the feisty Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Despite an offense missing Puka Nacua, the NFL's most dangerous offensive weapon, the team scored 35 points

But what many failed to notice is that the offense did not score from tight ends in the game. Four of the five touchdowns scored in the game were thanks to veteran wide receiver Davante Adams and his understudy, rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield.

For the record, Mumpfield has caught two of three passes for 12 yards and a touchdown. It's time for him to move up the depth chart and get more work.

How long should Mumpfield remain an afterthought in this offense? Speedy receiver Tutu Atwell has struggled to connect with quarterback Matthew Stafford this season. And second-year wide receiver Jordan Whittington has remained a steady contributor, but not a featured receiver. Perhaps it's time to give the Pittsburgh Panthers rookie a shot?

Konata Mumpfield has convinced some NFL experts already

ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick saw Mumpfield as an under-the-radar fit for Los Angeles' offense before the team selected him in Round 7. He continues to profess support for the young man, even as the 2025 NFL season nears the midpoint. But Riddick was not the only discerning eye to see a bright future.

Veteran wide receiver Davante Adams sees much of himself in the attitude and style of the former Pittsburgh receiver. And he continues to work with him in practice to help him realize the optimal version of himself.

If both Riddick and Adams see future greatness in Mumpfield, what is LA waiting for? Well, if Week 7 is any indication, perhaps the wait is over.

The team has certainly taken its good old time bringing talented rookies online this season on the offensive side of the football. But perhaps patience was the right decision. Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson has joined Mumpfield in finding the end zone in Week 7. This season, he has caught two of four passes for 52 yards.

Both rookies, as well as rookie running back Jarquez Hunter, simply need experience. That experience has been slow to arrive. Still, things could be picking up for the rookie wide receiver, particularly now that Adams has publicly endorsed him. He has the right mindset to succeed in the NFL. Now, he simply needs the work to prove himself.

As always, thanks for reading.
