St. Louis Rams Want To Re-Structure Sam Bradford Deal
In what should come as no surprise, according to St. Louis Rams beat reporter, Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispath, the Rams will seek to restructure the deal of their former number one overall pick, Sam Bradford.
Bradford is set to make $12.985 million in the final year of his rookie contract and in order to open up cap space to re-sign players and sign players in free agency the Rams, re-structuring Bradford is a must.
Most likely the Rams will end up giving Bradford an incentive based deal with a certain amount guaranteed, but a lot of it being something that he would have to earn on the field with playing time. Bradford hasn’t set foot in a regular season game since 2013 in Carolina.

With the news that many of the teams atop the draft prefer Bradford over Mariota and Winston, the Rams quarterback really doesn’t have much incentive to re-structure other than to do his team a favor.
If worst does come to worst and Bradford simply refuses to re-structure, the Rams could also simply cut Bradford outright saving that $12.985 million against the cap and then re-sign him to a better, more team-friendly deal.
The problem with this is that Bradford would then have the option to leave the team completely leaving the Rams with Austin Davis as the only remaining quarterback on the roster. Obviously not an ideal situation. It would make for signing a quarterback in free agency and drafting a quarterback like Brett Hundley, an absolute must.
This negotiation is going to be a big part of the Rams offseason. Jeff Fisher and Les Snead have said that they will bring in competition for Bradford in camp, but clearly they would like to stick with the former Heismann winner.
If the Rams can sign Bradford to a better deal, it will open up a lot when it comes time for free agency and re-signing players.
