St. Louis Rams Re-Sign Kendricks, Trade For Case Keenum

In what was a busy day on Tuesday for the St. Louis Rams as they traded quarterback Sam Bradford for Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, two moves that got overlooked were the re-signing of tight end Lance Kendricks and trade for quarterback Case Keenum.

According to ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner, the Lance Kendricks deal is a four year deal worth in neighborhood of $18.5 million.

That deal could look to be a little pricey as Kendricks is the team’s number two tight end behind Jared Cook. After opening up nearly $10-million in cap space by trading Bradford, they spent almost half of it on their number two tight end.

Kendrick was selected by the Rams in the 2nd round of the 2011 and had a career year with the team in 2012 racking up 519 receiving yards and four touchdowns. However, with Cook in the picture, the Rams tight end has failed to come up with more than 300 the last two seasons.

In other news, the St. Louis Rams traded away one of  their seventh round picks for quarterback Case Keenum. Keen spend time of the Rams  for two months last season, but was dropped to the practice squad to make room for Mark Barron.

Once demoted to the practice squad, he was re-snatched by the Texans, the team he began his career with. Keenum never started or played in a game for the Rams.

This is another move that doesn’t make a lot of sense. While many expect the Rams to draft a quarterback, it looks like Keenum and Austin Davis will be fighting for the backup quarterback spot. However, with only five picks in the upcoming draft, Les Snead may not want to waste it on a backup quarterback and rather give up basically nothing, for a quarterback who has been with the team.

The St. Louis Rams free agency saga continues tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates. Names to keep an eye on will be Justin Blalock and Stefen Wisniewski.
