Saturday, the St. Louis Rams traded wide receiver Chris Givens to the Baltimore Ravens for a conditional draft pick in 2018 according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Initial reports said the Rams would receive a 2017 seventh round selection in return for Givens. However, after the trade was finalized with the league office, it was revealed they would actually receive a 2018 seventh round selection. Either way, St. Louis has turned a rarely used receiver into something in return.

The Baltimore Ravens have been looking for help on offense since the regular season began. The offseason departure of deep threat Torrey Smith and injury to rookie Breshad Perriman has brought instability in itβs return. In Week 4 wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. was sidelined with a back injury depleting an already shallow pool even further. Now, they bring in Givens to fill that void.

The loss of Givens on the Rams side will be a small ripple. Givens played only 42 percent of the team offensive snaps through three weeks and had recorded on one catch for seven yards in the same time. Givens was listed as the fourth wide out on the depth chart and with the return of Brian Quick, was deemed expendable.
With the move the Rams now have an open roster spot and will likely bring up running back Trey Watts, who is eligible to return from suspension on Monday.
St. Louis now has five wide receivers on the active roster. Bradley Marquez and Stedman Bailey play primarily on special teams, allowing them to hold some value, and with Tavon Austin, Kenny Britt and now Quick garnering most of the three wide out sets.
After all is said and done, this transaction is far from registering any movement on the richter scale, but should work out for both teams. Givens lack of production in St. Louis made him the odd man out, and the Ravens need for a new deep threat option can be filled by Givens. Givens is now in the final year of his contract.
The Rams also released defensive tackle Doug Worthington from the practice squad on Saturday.
