The St. Louis Rams welcomed their rival the San Fransisco 49ers into the Dome to battle it out. The Rams are hoping for an improvement in their offense as being the worst offense in the NFL, improving each week is a must. The Rams opened up today’s game against the 49ers in hopes of going above .500 for the first time since Week 1, and by the looks of it, it could happen. The 49ers started the game red-hot with quarterback Collin Kaepernick completing three quick passes and running for a total of 11 yards, to get this team in field goal range. The 49ers took the lead with a 54 yard field goal by Phil Dawson in the opening drive. The Rams offense would once again start off cold.

The next two offensive series for the Rams would last a total of 3 minutes and 30 seconds as they only managed to total 22 yards. Todd Gurley and Nick Foles could not get the offense going, as the Rams leaned toward the defense for some help. Besides the Rams starting off cold on offense, the 49ers joined them after their first drive of the game. With their third offensive drive, the 49ers were backed up all the way to their three yard line. With the Rams hard-core pass rush, they tackled running back Mike Davis in the end zone for a safety. The Rams would cut the lead down to one, as the Rams had the momentum and excellent field possession from the safety. However the celebration was short-lived as Nick Foles would complete a 24 yard pass to Tavon Austin to the San Francisco 26 yard line, but Austin would fumble and give the ball right back to the 49ers.

That would end the 1st quarter, as the 2nd quarter would be all St. Louis Rams. The Rams would start their first 2nd quarter offensive drive by handing the ball of to Gurley, and one hand off would only be needed as Gurley runs for a 71 yard touchdown to give the Rams a 8-2 lead. The Rams would go for the two point attempt, and would succed as Jared Cook catches a pass near the back of the end zone to give the Rams a 10-2 lead. Rams defense would once again step up big time, and force another three and out. Defense has only been improving since Week 1. Rams would once again get some more points on the board, with another solid drive that would stop at the 49ers 20 yard line. Greg Zuerlein would connect on a 38 yard field goal. The Rams offense finally starting clicking, and it would continue to stay red-hot all the way until the last play of the 2nd quarter.
49ers got some fire after watching the Rams offense finally start to click, as they would have a successful drive. The 49ers would drive all the way to the Rams 9 yard line, yet with the best defensive red zone team in the league, the Rams would stop them only for a field goal. Phil Dawson connected for another field goal, this time 26 yards out, to cut the lead down to seven. Rams would lead 13-6, but they would get the last laugh before the end of the quarter. Nick Foles and company would string together a 7 play, 80 yard drive that was capped off with a 2 yard rush by Austin. The drive included an 49 yard bomb from Foles to Cook.
Besides the Rams offense finally heating up, the defense only held the 49ers offense to 113 yards along with a sack from defensive tackle Michael Brockers. Rams lead 20-6, and it’s time for the second half at the Dome.
