No. 2 Todd Gurley
When the Rams selected Todd Gurley out of Georgia with the tenth overall pick, the NFL world was in shock. Gurley was the first running back taken in the first round since Trent Richardson in 2012. The talented young back was coming off a brutal ACL injury. The San Diego Chargers were projected to take him with the fifteenth pick in the draft. But most of all: the Rams didn’t need a running back; they already had Tre Mason! What they really needed was an offensive lineman!
"“Before he tore his ACL, Todd Gurley was a top-5 pick, no brainer.” –NFL Offensive Coach"
Fast forward to Week 11 of the NFL season and Todd Gurley is already one of the best running backs in the league. On 130 carries, Gurley has rushed for 709 yards, which is good for a 5.5 yard average. He also has five rushing touchdowns in only six starts during his rookie season.
This rookie is incredible and is the front-runner for offensive rookie of the year. His closest competitor is wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is tearing it up on an Oakland Raiders offense led by Derek Carr.
Despite the fact that so many people were surprised with the Rams’ selection of Todd Gurley in the draft, it’s hard to imagine what the offense would look like without him. The Rams already have one of the league’s worst passing offenses. But ever since Todd Gurley took over the starting running back position, the Rams boast an elite running game with 130.9 rushing yards per game.
Todd Gurley is the face of the Rams offense right now. Keep feeding him, Fisher and Cignetti.
