1995: The Return of Football to St. Louis
Nov 1, 2015; St. Louis, MO, USA; St. Louis Rams fans hold a sign during the second half of the Rams
To the dismay of many long-time Rams fans in Los Angeles, Georgia Frontiere decided to move her franchise back to her birthplace of St. Louis, MO. St. Louis, a few years earlier had lost a bid to get an NFL expansion team, which was later awarded to Carolina and Jacksonville.
At the time, Los Angeles was struggling to find a solution to the Rams long-time desire for a new stadium. The Rams had multiple suitors at the time, including Baltimore, Hartford, and St. Louis, offering to take the franchise. Unfortunately for the Melonheads, the Rams headed east and relocated to St. Louis. The Rams played their first few games at Bush Memorial Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Club and former home of the St. Louis Football Cardinals.
The Rams christened the new Trans-World Airlines Dome on November 12, 1995; with an ironic 28-17 win against the Carolina Panthers. The Rams began the season going 4-0 and would only finished the season with 3 more wins. The Rams finished third in the NFC West standings in 1995, but who cares, football was back in the Gateway City.
