Paxton Lynch – QB – Memphis

Lynch came out of nowhere in a weak quarterback class. He now finds himself in discussion as the top prospect at the position and for good reason. Lynch has excelled in the offensive scheme at Memphis. He has the right size and frame for the position but also possess great mobility. Despite a lack of top-tire competition Lynch has shown the ability to make NFL-type throws with pinpoint accuracy. Lynch checks in with a similar status to Blake Bortles. He fills out the scouting report very well, but needs to add size and improve his footwork to become to have a shot at “franchise quarterback” status. Lynch will continue to lead discussion all the way up until draft day, but rest assured, he will be a first round selection.

Jared Goff – QB – California

Goff was supposed to be the sure fire first overall selection heading into the 2016 draft. However, slight regression and other factors have lead to him slipping a bit. Don’t be confused though, his name is still atop many scout’s draft boards. Goff’s numbers are huge in the spread-offense he commands at Cal, but has shown great command and accuracy on all types of throws. What’s most impressive about Goff is his ability to read and analyze opposing defenses, which he has improved upon immensely in 2015.

Playing behind a weak offensive line Goff has showed great resiliency as well. There are concerns about his size and durability. Goff hasn’t missed a single college game, but there are questions about if his size could hold up over the course of an NFL season. He also struggles to track receiver when he’s forced form the pocket, and there is a noticeable drop in his accuracy when throwing on the move. Goff has the right mental pieces in place to be successful in this league, and often times that’s, something you cant teach.
