Rams and Buccaneers color rush dubbed the “Condiment Bowl”
The St. Louis Rams will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Footbal this week in the league’s new color rush uniforms. The uniforms, provided by Nike, will put the Rams in a color they have rightfully named “yellow-gold,” while the opposing Buccaneers will be head to toe in red. It didn’t take much imagination to envision a ketchup vs. mustard type scenario playing out on national television.

Images of the uniforms have been circling the Internet since their debut. To be fair, they don’t look horrible. A little obnoxious for some, maybe, but the coolest thing to break through this season to others, you better believe it. The players had mixed reactions as well.
Wide receiver Tavon Austin was a huge proponent of the change. Having played his college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers, the uniforms color scheme is the closest he has come to returning to his NCAA days since his NFL career began. Austin reveled in the nostalgia.
"“We used to call it the gold rush back at West Virginia. It feels good to be fully back in the uniform I started in.” Austin said he expected a little boost from the old colors. “You are so used to your old uniforms so when you put something else on, you want to look good in it, it definitely gives you a little juice. I look like I’m back in the WV gold and I just feel good playing in it once again.” (Nick Wagoner, ESPN)"
While some embraced the new colors more than others, that didn’t stop the light hearted jokes from floating around the facility. Linebacker James Laurinaitis was hoping for a different setup and has been pushing for the original blue and white uniforms the team used to wear when they first arrived in St. Louis. Laurinaitis joked that the whole setup was specifically for Austin.
"“I think we wanted to look like West Virginia for Tavon.” Laurinaitis said laughing. “I guess when you’re a playmaker you get a lot of pull around here.” (Wagoner, ESPN)"
Quarterback Case Keenum was worried the short turnaround wouldn’t give him much time to plan

his outfit. He got a few laughs at the expense of the equipment staff showing off the uniforms during the week.
"“We had our equipment guys, it wasn’t their best look.” Keenum said. “Some of those guys didn’t fill out the jerseys quite like some of the guys in the locker room. Not to dis on them too bad, but they did their best.” (Wagoner, ESPN)"
Head coach Jeff Fisher provided the line of the night when he compared his dress code to that of the players.
"“I said this to the team and I’ve oftentimes said this before, I’m just glad it’s not baseball where I have to wear the uniform as well.” (Wagoner, ESPN)"
It’s clear the uniforms are better accepted by some more than others. Even if these catch funny names such as the “condiment bowl,” or “fruit bowl” it has been an interesting take on a more modern uniform combination.
