It’s the same narrative for the St. Louis Rams in recent years: “They have almost all the pieces to be a Super Bowl-caliber team, but they need a quarterback”! The Bradford era ultimately failed after five injury-plagued seasons, and the Foles experiment was very short lived. Fans and experts alike suggest that the team take a chance on one of the top signal-callers in the upcoming draft despite a top-heavy, unimpressive quarterback class. Others have looked toward proven free agents such as Drew Brees and Matt Ryan. But has anyone really considered going with Case Keenum—who has been the Rams’ QB1 for the past three weeks—under center going forward?

Take a look at Kirk Cousins’ fantastic year with the playoff-bound Washington Redskins. Going into Week 17, Cousins has completed 69.5% of his passes for 3,990 yards and 26 touchdowns to only 11 interceptions. We’re talking about the man who was the temporary solution to the woes of a once-perceived franchise quarterback in Robert Griffin III. It remains to be seen if he will be a starting quarterback in the NFL for years to come, but Cousins proved to his doubters that all he needed was a full season to be successful in this league.

Case Keenum has led a struggling St. Louis squad to a three-game winning streak, most recently upsetting the Seattle Seahawks at the daunting CenturyLink Field. No Ram quarterback in over a decade has been victorious in Seahawk territory, but Keenum finally did it.

Is this a sign that Keenum can have a Kirk Cousins-like year next season? Or is this simply an indication that Keenum will be a valuable backup for the future?
