Todd Gurley should run away with Offensive Rookie of the Year

Remember when the St. Louis Rams selected running back Todd Gurley with their 10th pick in the past NFL Draft as fans across the world questioned why they would address a position they need no help in? It was clear that general manager Les Snead and coach Jeff Fisher saw something special out of the running back from Georgia. It was another gamble the Rams took on as Gurley’s college career ended early with a Torn ACL in November 2014.

However that gamble would all pay off, as a year later, Gurley would introduce himself to the National Football League. Gurley would get his first career NFL start against the Arizona Cardinals as he turned the heads of every football fan. 19 carries later, Gurley would rush for 146 yards as he helped the Rams with another divisional win.

That was only the start of Gurley’s amazing rookie year as he torched many defenses to come. Gurley would finish the year with 1,106 rushing yards, 188 receiving yards along with 10 touchdowns. Gurley also broke many records along the way. He joined the ranks of Eric Dickerson and Jerome Bettis as Rams rookie’s to rush for over 1,00 yards, as well as setting the most rushing yards in the first four career starts. Gurley rushed for over 125+ rushing yards in those four games.

Oh but it does not stop there. Let me remind everybody once again Gurley produced these numbers with only playing in 13 games this season, with starting 12 of them. Gurley finished 3rd in rushing yards this season, 6th for longest run, 2nd for 20+ runs, tied 5th for touchdowns, and lastly 4th in yards per game. Let me remind everybody again, he did all of this as a rookie. Insane record-breaking numbers as Gurley should run away with the Offensive Rookie of the year.

Seven weeks ago, I made the prediction that Todd Gurley will win the rookie of the year, and how he finished the year off with those numbers, I do not see anybody else winning. Early in the season coach Fisher talked about Gurley on how he is just a different unstoppable back.

"“I mean, the best back when I was playing was my teammate and that was Walter [Payton],But, there’s no resemblance there. They’re just different body styles, body types. But, as I said, it’d be unfair to compare Todd to anybody that I’ve either played against or with or coached with. He’s just different.”"

Gurley will be going up against (WR, OAK) Amari Cooper, (WR, MIN) Stefon Diggs, (QB, TB) Jameis Winston who have also had an excellent rookie season. Cooper led all rookies in receptions (72). He also was the only rookie receiver to notch a 1,000-yard season, posting 1,070 yards. Diggs finished with 720 receiving yards along with 4 touchdowns. Winston threw for 4,042 yards this season, the third-most passing yards for a rookie quarterback in NFL history.

It could be a tight race, but Gurley has done a lot more in such a little amount of time. What do you think NFL fans? Who is going to be the offensive rookie of the year? Comment below and see your answers compared to other fans.
