Looking Forward and Back: 2016-17 Los Angeles Rams Running Backs
By Matt Colinco
The Rams have had a history of great running backs. Names like Eric Dickerson, Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk, and Steven Jackson are in the Hall of Fame or will at least get consideration for the prestigious honor. Will the Rams’ rookie sensation Todd Gurley eventually have a bust in Canton? A good first year in Los Angeles would help his case.

But contrary to popular belief, the Los Angeles Rams actually have running backs not named Todd Gurley. Whether you like it or not, Jeff Fisher’s “run-first” offensive philosophy calls for multiple running backs to gradually gain yards on the ground and tire out the opposing defense, setting up the passing game for Nick Foles—no, Case Keenum—no, Carson Wentz. Probably Case Keenum.
In this series of offseason articles, I hope to explore the Rams’ different positional groups through film and statistical analysis in order to give fans a better look into the team’s roster. To do so, I will first analyze the players’ 2015-16 season and how they have contributed to the St. Louis Rams in the past. Then, I will provide a prediction for their individual 2016-17 seasons in Los Angeles.
As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated. If this series needs significant improvement at any point during this offseason, please comment below. But I digress; without further ado, let’s get started with the Los Angeles Rams’ running back positional group.
