2017 NFL Draft Order: Updated Selections Heading Into Divisional Round
By Dan Parzych
9. Cincinnati Bengals
Just like the Carolina Panthers, the Cincinnati Bengals were another team that failed to live up to expectations during the 2016 season after failing to make the playoffs following a 6-9-1 finish. For a team that entered the year with five playoff appearances in a row, the Bengals took a major step back in 2016 when seeing how much they struggled on both sides of the football.
In fact, Cincinnati had previously established a reputation over the last couple of years for having one of the league’s top overall teams, but they clearly have plenty of areas to focus on improving during the offseason. From fixing the defense to providing more protection for Andy Dalton on offense, the Bengals realize they have nobody to blame but themselves for ending up with this high of a spot in the draft when they were originally seen as a favorite in the AFC early on.
Along with figuring out a way to emerge as contenders again in the AFC, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the pressure on Marvin Lewis to come back strong is at an all-time high. Lewis was already one of the most criticized coaches for his 0-7 record in the postseason, and until he figures out a way to overcome this horrendous record, the pressure is always going to be on the Bengals coach.
