2017 NFL Draft Order: Updated Selections Heading Into Divisional Round
By Dan Parzych
11. New Orleans Saints
Even if they only finished with a 7-9 record in 2016, the New Orleans Saints are a team to keep an eye on heading into next year when seeing how dangerous their offense can be. Drew Brees proved this year he still has a few good seasons left in him at quarterback, and when seeing the young weapons he has in the passing game, it’s understandable why he’s not ready to call it quits just yet.
As if having a speedy wide receiver in Brandin Cooks wasn’t enough, Brees found another weapon to rely on this year in rookie Michael Thomas after the former Ohio State came out of nowhere to make an immediate impact during his first season. After catching 92 passes for 1,137 yards to go along with nine touchdowns, the future seems bright for Thomas in the Saints’ passing game, no matter who the quarterback may be.
With the high-powered offense ranking near the top of the league, New Orleans needs to focus on improving the defense during the offseason if they’re going to have any chance of ending their three-year drought of losing seasons. The good news for the Saints is after their defense ranked near the bottom of the league in 2016, they can only go up moving forward.
