2017 NFL Draft Order: Updated Selections Heading Into Divisional Round
By Dan Parzych
24. Oakland Raiders
When it comes to feeling bad for teams, the Oakland Raiders take the cake after it’s tough not to wonder what could have been for this team if Derek Carr were healthy enough to participate in the playoffs. It’s crazy to think the Raiders were in position a few weeks ago to possibly earn the top seed in the AFC, but between Carr fracturing his fibula along with struggles over the final few games, the team was forced to play on the road Wild Card Weekend against the Houston Texans.
Without Carr, Oakland was forced to go with Connor Cook at quarterback against Houston, and while the rookie may have been a star in college, it was unfair to expect much from him in the playoffs without any experience under his belt. Not to mention the two stars that Carr relied on during the regular season in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree didn’t look 100 percent throughout the game, so it wasn’t a surprise to see the team receive an early exit.
On a positive note, at least the future appears to be bright for the Raiders, as there’s no reason why Carr shouldn’t bounce back stronger once he’s fully healthy. And when Carr does return, he’s going to be playing with an extra chip on his shoulder after seeing how the end of this season ended up.
