2017 NFL Draft Order: Updated Selections Heading Into Divisional Round
By Dan Parzych
7. San Diego Chargers
For the second year in a row, the San Diego Chargers were one of the worst teams at closing out games after nine of their 11 losses ended up coming by single digits. And if that wasn’t already a tough pill to swallow, the Chargers were the only team that lost to the Cleveland Browns all season, which basically sums up the type of year it was for this squad.
Obviously, the argument can easily be made that San Diego would have performed better with healthier players on both sides of the football, but it still doesn’t take away from how many fourth-quarter leads they allowed to slip away. As long as Philip Rivers remains healthy, this team will always be considered a potential contender in the AFC, although they still have a long way to go.
On a positive note, at least the Chargers were wise to part ways with Mike McCoy as the last couple of years made it clear he was far from the team’s answer at head coach. When looking at all of the young talent along with having a high draft pick, the head coaching job in San Diego is going to be an attractive one for McCoy’s replacement.
