After trading down with the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Rams used the No. 44 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to select tight end Gerald Everett.

The Los Angeles Rams entered the 2017 NFL Draft with the intention of finding another weapon for Jared Goff to work with in the passing game after the offense finished dead last in the league by only averaging 14 points per game last season. After making the tough decision to trade down with the Buffalo Bills at No. 37, the Rams decided to use the 44th pick on South Alabama tight end Gerald Everett.

This year’s draft class has been filled with plenty of amazing pass-catching tight ends, and if his career with the Jaguars, Goff is going to be quite pleased with his new addition on offense. Not to mention Goff has every reason in the world to be excited over this selection when seeing new head coach Sean McVay‘s previous success with pass-catching tight ends.

During his final two seasons at South Alabama, Everett managed to haul in 90 catches for 1,292 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns, and should make an immediate impact to the Rams’ passing game, especially playing alongside his new teammate in Tyler Higbee. The expectations were already high for Higbee entering his second year with Los Angeles, and now that Goff has the potential to have two reliable pass-catching tight ends to work with, one can only imagine what’s in store for the former California star’s sophomore season under center.

As much as Rams fans would have loved to see the team’s first pick in the draft be used on a wide receiver, it’s tough to disagree with the direction they went with at No. 44. Between his great hands and size, Los Angeles has to be thrilled over landing Everett at this point in the second round.
