The Los Angeles Rams are hoping to reap the rewards of investing in offensive talent.

The Los Angeles Rams have been guilty of a lot of things these last several years. Be it rampant losing or remarkable dysfunction, the Rams have been unimpressive.

But things look to be changing for the better in LA.

One quick look at the depth chart shows that at key positions on offense, where this team has struggled, the organization now has options,

When you’re a team who has been statistically dead on the offensive side of the football, options at wide receiver and tight end are good places to start building. When the Rams traded up to draft Jared Goff last season, a lot about this team became clear when he finally hit the field for the team’s final seven games.

All games they’d end up losing.

In Sean McVay, Los Angeles looks to be putting the pieces in place for a major makeover. The skill positions that can have a significant impact on this team winning have numbers. That means options for getting the best combination of winning on the field for 16 games.

Beginning with Tavon Austin and newcomer Robert Woods, competition for who emerges after that will be significant among Pharoh Cooper, Cooper Kupp, and Josh Reynolds.

At yight end, the incumbent Tyler Higbee will get a push from 3rd round pick Gerald Everett and even Temarrick Hemingway.

Third year running back Todd Gurley is no longer the only game in town with former Cowboy Lance Dunbar and Malcolm Brown. Add to the mix 6th round pick Sam Rogers and fullback Zach Laskey, and suddenly McVay has some chess pieces to put something together.

Who’s not in play on any Rams depth chart?

Well, Goff of course.

He’s the guy, short of injury, who doesn’t need to be looking around at who may be coming behind him. And unless Sean Mannion gives LA something serious to think about, Goff is safely ensconced as the top quarterback in Los Angeles.

But depth at those skill positions will also push the second year quarterback. After one season and a total of seven games, we still know virtually nothing about Goff. But we’ll likely find out something very soon about him.

A lot has to be flushed out before we can properly, and with any significant knowledge, dispense a letter grade on what is happening in Los Angeles. On paper, the Rams look to have made a significant investment talent-wise, where they needed it the most.

The organization should get high marks for that.

Where things go now is anybody’s guess.
