2017 NFL Power Rankings: Where do Los Angeles Rams stand during OTAs?
By Dan Parzych
30. San Francisco 49ers
Believe it or not, the Los Angeles Rams were the only team the San Francisco 49ers managed to defeat during the 2016 season, and they found a way to do it twice. Luckily for the 49ers, upper management realized the Chip Kelly was a horrible idea after parting ways with the former head coach after just one season, and they were able to land an offensive genius in Kyle Shanahan after the Super Bowl came to an end.
At the moment, San Francisco is projected to finish at the bottom of the NFC West, but this could easily turn into one of those teams that ends up surprising a lot of people during the 2017 season. Between landing one of the top free agents at wide receiver in Pierre Garcon to drafting two of the top defensive stars this year’s draft had to offer in Solomon Thomas and Reuben Foster, the 49ers are certainly moving in the right direction when it comes to bouncing back from two wins last year.
With Colin Kaepernick officially out of the picture, San Francisco will turn to veteran Brian Hoyer to run the offense, and while he may not be the long-term answer at quarterback, the team wouldn’t have brought him on board if they didn’t feel confident in him improving the offense. Plus, when looking at how successful Shanahan has been with quarterbacks over the years, Hoyer seems to be in good hands.
