After the emotion of a Week 2 matchup against McVay’s old team, the Los Angeles Rams head to the Bay area to play the 49ers.
Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay takes his Rams to San Francisco for Week 3 in what is an interesting early season game of two teams looking to exit the NFC West cellar. For Los Angeles, it’s their first road test of the year, and for the 49ers, it’s a chance to keep the winning ways going against the California rival they swept last season.

The match-up with San Francisco features two of the youngest coaches in the NFL, and two teams whose trajectory looks to be pointing up.
Both good things, except in Week 3 for Los Angeles.
On a short week, the Rams head to the Bay area looking to build on a possible win from the previous week against Washington.
The Rams will have their struggles on the road, and while the 49ers won’t be a juggernaut home or away, the short week will help San Francisco.
Of more interest is what might be the makings of a California rivalry that can only help both the NFC West and the NFL. Both teams have been bottom feeders for awhile, but both look to be turning the corner in 2017. So much so, that these are two teams who I think DO NOT finish at the bottom of the division this season.
The Rams and 49ers are likely to be in the early stages of revamped offenses given their new head coaches. And while I expect LA to be better on defense, Week 3 may find McVay and his offense still tinkering.
As for who may be better on offense that day may result in a “push”, if for no other reason that LA is away from the Coliseum for the first time this season.

It’s a small factor, but enough to be worth a field goal difference on the road.
San Francisco won’t sweep Los Angeles this season, but both teams will hold court at home.
Rams 13
49ers 17
