Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Dominique Easley was carted off the field on Tuesday with a leg injury.

Training camp is already filled with plenty of excitement for the Los Angeles Rams and their fans when looking at all of the key changes made during the offseason, although they could certainly do without the holdout by Aaron Donald over his contract situation. With Wade Phillips now calling the shot as the new defensive coordinator under Sean McVay, the Rams’ defense hopes to emerge as one of the top units in the league, but unfortunately the team may have suffered a major blow on Tuesday with Dominique Easley.

The Los Angeles defensive tackle was carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice with an apparent leg injury, and while Easley’s MRI will provide answers to how serious the injury is, there still seems to be some concern within the organization due to his past. Back in his college days at Florida, Easley tore ACLs in both knees, so it’s easy to see why the Rams are a little concerned over the seriousness of the injury.

When considering he was a former first-round pick of the New England Patriots back in 2014, Los Angeles was thrilled to see him available in free agency prior to the start of the 2016 season, and were obviously pleased enough to place a first-round tender on him this offseason. For a player who has only been in the NFL for three seasons, Easley still seems to have his best football ahead of him, and if this injury does turn out to be ACL related, it’s going to be absolutely crushing for the Rams.

As bad as it sounds, the fact that Easley was carted off the field isn’t a good sign, and there should be some sort of update over the next day or so. Between this news surrounding Easley along with Donald continuing to holdout, this is far from the start Phillips wanted to deal with on the defensive side of the football.
