After wearing No. 2 in preseason, Sammy Watkins has switched his jersey to No. 12 for the Los Angeles Rams during the regular season.
With preseason in the books, the Los Angeles Rams will prepare for their first contest of the regular season against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, as the questions still remain on whether Andrew Luck will be healthy enough to suit up due to a shoulder injury. As for the Rams, all eyes will be on how well this offense looks following an offseason filled with numerous key changes, one of which included the acquisition of Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills.
Entering the offseason, Los Angeles made it a priority to bring on better weapons for Jared Goff to work with after seeing all of his struggles as a rookie, and while the team certainly came through during free agency along with the NFL Draft, nothing tops the move made to land Watkins. To top off the excitement, the Rams fans who have been patiently waiting to buy his jersey can finally do so now that Watkins has finally chosen a number for the regular season, which the team recently announced on Twitter.
That’s right, after rocking No. 2 during the preseason since his original number (14) from Buffalo was already taken by Sean Mannion, Watkins will be wearing No. 12 moving forward. With this process finally taken care of, now it’s time for Watkins to prove his value on offense by showing the football world how much of a mistake the Bills made by giving up on him so easily.
Watkins may have a history of injuries from the last few years, but if he can stay healthy to make a big enough of an impact in the passing game, the Rams may strongly consider rewarding the wideout to a nice extension. But first, let’s see how Watkins performs during his first regular season with Los Angeles against Indianapolis with his new jersey number.
