Could former NFL great Peyton Manning be the next General Manager of the Los Angeles Rams? Reports from over the weekend say that could happen by next season.

Word that that the Los Angeles Rams could be a potential landing spot for eventual Hall Of Famer Peyton Manning as team General Manager was curious but not a terrible idea. The fact LA has a GM in Les Snead is only a matter of circumstance.

Snead, who survived the firing of former head coach and abject disaster Jeff Fisher, is still something that fans still shake their heads at to this day.

But to be honest, Manning could be the right person who could benefit the Rams, at the very least, from a public relations standpoint and be a smart and likable face for an organization that sorely needs a front man.

Fisher wasn’t that guy and neither is Snead. Rams COO Kevin Demoff is not someone who either fan base in St. Louis or Los Angeles will ever warm too for any number of valid reasons.

But like current head coach Sean McVay, Manning would be a fresh hire with ZERO ties to the failures in either city. He’s a proven winner, and will be a first ballot HOF’er who is always in the minds of every NFL fan.

Now, whether that translates to a successful evaluator of talent no one knows. The betting money that he will be the next John John Elway, who by the way, John Lynch in San Francisco is also trying to be, remains to be seen.

Either way, the Los Angeles Rams would be smart to part ways with Snead after this season. Regardless of how things turn out with quarterback Jared Goff or McVay, LA is still in need of a freshening that makes sense in moving in a new direction with a new GM.

Peyton Manning may just be the guy at just the right time.
