The Los Angeles Rams have found some success, but what are the things that drive fear into the hears of fans, even when things are going well?  Here are a few things Rams fans fear.

With Halloween coming up for Los Angeles Rams fans, the world gets in touch with its phobic side. Scary movies, macabre decorations, and funny costumes become ubiquitous.

Fans in LA are no strangers to fear. The last decade has seen the Rams fans like myself hold their breath when the quarterback launches the ball downfield and fear the moment that Tavon Austin attempts to catch a punt. But this season has caused much less fear in Rams fans. At 5-2, the future is bright. But, in the spirit of Halloween, what are the things Rams fans should fear the most in the midst of their success?

A Major Injury

The Rams have been remarkably clean on injuries so far this season. The biggest loss so far has been S Lamarcus Joyner’s bad hamstring that has kept him out several weeks, though he was back this week.  But imagine if RB Todd Gurley hurt his knee again and was out for the year. Or what if QB Jared Goff blew out his throwing shoulder and was on the shelf for the last nine games? Or imagine that the ageless wonder, LT Andrew Whitworth finally started to have the issues 35-year-old tackles tend to have and got hurt. Each of these could potentially take much of the firepower and security out of this Rams offense. As a fan of the NFL for a long time, I know injuries are inevitable. I’m just hoping that luck allows us to avoid the season killers.

Goff Returning to Rookie Form

Injuries aside, what if the success we have seen so far from Goff is smoke and mirrors from head coach Sean McVay scheming things perfectly? What if defenses “figure Goff out” and force the youngster into turnovers, fumbles, and three-and-outs like was saw from him last year?  He would not be the first quarterback to “lose it” after showing signs of success.  It would turn what has appeared to be one of the NFL’s top offenses with the long-term answer at quarterback into another big question mark as they approached the offseason.  Yikes!

Wade Phillips Retiring

More from Ramblin' Fan

Since halftime of the Dallas game in week four, the Rams defense has looked much better.  More specifically, they have given up 39 points in the last fourteen quarters.  This has been largely thanks to Wade Phillips and the defense he is able to dial up.    But what if Phillips, who would be 71 years old at the beginning of next season, decided he was done coaching?  What if he came back this year as a favor to McVay, and next year turns the reigns over to someone else?

That would almost certainly be a step back for the Los Angeles Rams defense and take some of the excitement out of this team.  Losing coordinators is something that successful teams have to deal with, but it is worth worrying about for fans.
