2018 NFL Power Rankings: Brandin Cooks, Ndamukong Suh puts Rams on top

11. Kansas City Chiefs
Keeping things going in the AFC West, the Chiefs have been one of those teams that pulled off all sorts of unexpected moves this offseason, ranging from trading Smith to the Redskins along with sending Marcus Peters to the Rams. For the most part, fans seemed more upset over parting ways with Peters when looking at what they got in return from Los Angeles, even if the cornerback was a bit of a distraction at times over the last couple of years.
At least with Kansas City’s situation at quarterback, the team knew it would only be a matter of time before they would move on from Smith after trading up in the first round of last year’s draft to select Patrick Mahomes II. Without question, the Chiefs never would have traded Smith away if they didn’t feel confident enough in Mahomes having what it takes to handle the starting job under center, although he still has a lot to prove.
It’s one thing to show potential, but it’s a whole new ball game when it comes to backing up the hype by making the necessary hype on the football field. Luckily, Mahomes should benefit from what was already a high-powered offense led by Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce with the addition of a speedy playmaker in Sammy Watkins, who joined the team in free agency.
