Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff seems to have a much smaller target on his back than his rival in San Francisco. With his new contract, Jimmy Garoppolo may need to to produce faster results than Goff in LA.
The Los Angeles Rams enter the 2018 NFL season with high expectations, and a pretty large target on their back. No longer are they just a feel good kind of story, they need to win and win a lot. Now, the same can be said for another team in the NFC West.
Hello San Francisco.
Hello Jimmy Garoppolo.
As I’ve written, and as you here more and more in the national media, Jimmy G. and his Niners, yes his Niners, are being talked about for big things, maybe even getting to a Super Bowl before anyone would expect from a team completely upside down just a season ago.
Anyone remember the 6-10 record they posted last season?
If anything, the talk swirling around San Francisco is a reflection of the five straight Garoppolo and the 49ers managed to tear off before exiting the 2017 season with a ton of good vibes and expectations for a better 2018.
The Rams can say a thing or two about such things, though it’s considerably louder than with their neighbors to the north.
Los Angeles is loaded, absolutely loaded for this coming season, especially on defense. If things pay off as fans will be hoping for, it could include a legitimate run at more than a single playoff appearance.
But with the Rams, they are looked at more as a team, where the expectations with the 49ers seem more centered on Garoppolo as his big, new contract would now indicate.
Meaning fans and the media will commence something of a watch as to how soon he can get them not just out of the cellar, but as a legitimate postseason threat.
Next: 5 way too early predictions for Rams and NFC West
With the manner in which LA exploded on the NFC West last year, it doesn’t seem illogical that San Francisco could also make such a leap. The difference being it’ll be on Jimmy G. To deliver the goods.
With Jared Goff, if things don’t work out as both hoped and expected, it’s doubtful it’ll be quite the same thing. The measurement for the Rams third year quarterback seem significantly less than they appear to be with Garoppolo in San Francisco.
The money is the big deal now, and that is always less forgiving.
