2. Mannion recovers after rough start

During the first quarter, Sean Mannion was showing signs of his horrendous outing from Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens in which he looked like he was going to be at risk to lose the backup job to Goff. When looking at how many teams dealt with injuries at the quarterback position last season, the Rams just like everyone else realize the importance of having a backup to rely on in case anything were to happen to Goff, which hopefully won’t be the case at all.

While Mannion has certainly been frustrating to watch at times this preseason, the backup does deserve some credit for turning things around the way

he did since he would go on to finish the game completing 11 of 17 passes for 68 yards with a touchdown and interception. Yes, Mannion’s numbers clearly didn’t stick out like most other quarterbacks across the league, but also keep in mind that Los Angeles wasn’t playing any starters at receiver.

In other words, Mannion’s decent performance may end up being just enough to help him keep the backup job for now since the Rams don’t really have that much of another choice this late in August. But also, Mannion deserves some credit for turning things around the way he did when seeing how lost he looked at first.
