The Los Angeles Rams will wear their “Color Rush” uniforms when they play the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
The Los Angeles Rams will not go the classic route when the host the Kansas City Chiefs in their first Monday Night Football game at the Coliseum since 1979. Instead, they will don the remarkably ugly and gimmicky “Color Rush” unis.
Can I get an ugh!
Clearly, and I’m just spitballing here, the guess is since the Rams were to be playing a “home” game at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, the all mustard combination was geared to be a marketing opportunity for the global audience the National Football League vigorously chases.
That said, it still doesn’t make it a good choice but I get it, as does the NFL when making a buck is possible.
It is disappointing that the Monday Night Football audience isn’t getting the classic gear Los Angeles wore in Week 10 when they played the Seattle Seahawks. With the Rams and Chiefs under the lights, those would have been a much better look than what “Color Rush” presents.
Still, it’s a look that running back and MVP candidate Todd Gurley likes. Since the disaster that was the 50 shades of blue against the Dallas Cowboys last season, even the all mustard look is begrudgingly better.
The Rams continue in this odd cycle of uniforms as the league has made it difficult for the LA brain-trust to do much else beyond the mix of classic, which the Los Angeles fan base likes, some of the look they wore when they were in St. Louis, and the “Color Rush” set.
Bottom line, the wait on new uniforms to coincide with the move to the Inglewood facility can’t get here soon enough, if for no other reason than the Rams and their unis is nothing more than a grab bag over 16 games. Hopefully by then, “Color Rush” will be nothing more than a distant memory.
