1. McVay knows Gurley is important for long run

As mentioned before, this time of year can be difficult for some teams when it comes to figuring out whether it’s worth resting a player to avoid any sort of injury that could impact the playoffs.

For Gurley, the star running back has been listed as day-to-day following knee inflammation from Sunday’s game against the Eagles, but McVay knows how crushing it would be to lose him on offense once January rolls around for the start of the playoffs.

Nobody needs to explain just how dangerous of a running back Gurley is when healthy, as there’s a reason why he finished second in the MVP voting last year to the great Tom Brady.

If the Rams appeared to be at serious risk of losing the No. 2 seed over these final two weeks by having to play better football teams, it would be easy to understand why McVay would want Gurley on the field.

Since the final two games happen to be against the bottom of the NFC West in the Cardinals and 49ers, the Rams appear to be in a position where they can afford to be extra cautious with Gurley. At the end of the day, Los Angeles wants to make sure their star running back in Gurley will be 100 percent come playoff time to avoid an early exit like last January.
